What size boat is a Haibo 12V trolling motor suitable for?

As a general guide, the ET-34 (34 lbs) is recommended for boats up to 2.6 m, the ET-44 (44 lbs) for boats up to 3.0 m, the ET-54 (54 lbs) for boats up to 3.6 m, and the M-150 (80 lbs, brushless) for boats up to 4.2 m. What's the difference between the ET-34, ET-44 and ET-54?

The ET-34, ET-44 and ET-54 share the same overall design and features. The main differences are thrust, output power and the recommended boat size: 34 lbs and 384W for the ET-34, 44 lbs and 480W for the ET-44, 54 lbs and 540W for the ET-54. The ET-34 has an aluminum shaft, while the ET-44 and ET-54 use a stainless steel shaft.

What is the difference between the brushed ET-series and the brushless M-150?

The ET-34, ET-44 and ET-54 use a brushed motor with 5 forward and 3 reverse speed settings. The M-150 uses a brushless motor with stepless speed control, giving smoother acceleration and improved efficiency, along with higher thrust (80 lbs) and suitability for both fresh and salt water.

Do I need the brushless M-150, or is a brushed ET-series motor enough?

For most inflatable boats and everyday fishing, a brushed ET-series motor (34 to 54 lbs) is enough. Choose the M-150 if you want the highest available thrust (80 lbs), stepless speed control, or plan to use the motor in saltwater.

Can I use a regular car battery with a Haibo trolling motor?

It will work, but it isn't ideal. Car batteries are built to deliver a short burst of high current to start an engine, not for sustained use over hours. A deep-cycle battery can safely be discharged much deeper than a standard car battery, providing longer runtime and a significantly longer service life under repeated use.

What battery capacity and type is recommended?

Recommended capacity depends on the model: 40 to 100 Ah for the ET-34, 50 to 100 Ah for the ET-44, 50 to 100 Ah for the ET-54, and 80 to 120 Ah for the M-150. A lead-acid or AGM deep-cycle battery will work, but we recommend a LiFePO4 or Li-ion NMC battery for the best performance. LiFePO4 and Li-ion NMC batteries typically provide more usable capacity, longer cycle life and lower weight than traditional lead-acid batteries.

How long will the motor run on one battery?

Runtime depends on the battery's capacity, the speed you run the motor at, and your boat's load, so there's no single number that fits every setup. Lower speeds and higher-capacity batteries both extend runtime significantly.

Can Haibo trolling motors be used in saltwater?

Yes. The M-150 is designed for both fresh and salt water. The ET-34, ET-44 and ET-54 can also be used in saltwater, provided they are thoroughly rinsed with fresh water after every use to help prevent corrosion. We recommend rinsing the M-150 after saltwater use as well.

Sport mode is a boost setting on the M-150 that increases power from 600W to 780W (current from 50A to 65A) when additional thrust is required. Sport mode is available exclusively on the brushless M-150.
